When Ralph Williams was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce for 2014, chamber President Rod Slyhoff said he "has had a tremendous impact in many areas of our community, and the way he has gone about it is what is so impressive. His leadership and involvement in the community often goes unnoticed. It's safe to say we all have enjoyed and benefited from the positive changes that he has delivered." One major achievement is as a founder of the Friends of Football for CSU-Pueblo, community members and alums who raised over $13 million, allowing for the return of football to CSU-Pueblo in 2008.
Williams received his BA in Political Science from CSU-Ft. Collins in 1963. He began his insurance career 53 years ago with the former Steel City Agencies, serving as the president and CEO for 29 years. When HUB International acquired Steel City Agencies in 2007, Williams stayed on at HUB as a vice president/client executive. As such, he is responsible for sales and servicing of major accounts like school districts, public and nonprofit agencies, hospitals, and medical facilities. Ralph has also assumed the role of mentoring young producers in the agency. He is universally respected in the insurance business.
Ralph has made it a practice to get deeply involved in the community with participation in many community organizations where he has served on the board of directors and as an officer of the Catholic Diocese of Pueblo Foundation, Health Access Pueblo, HARP Foundation and PEDCO.
His community involvement has left an indelible mark on community professionals. They have publicly recognized his selfless work, leadership and accomplishments by bestowing on him awards like the American Red Cross Humanitarian "Heroes" Award for 2013, the HUB Heroes in the Community Award in 2013, Parkview Medical Center's 27th Annual Starlight Gala Recipient for 2007, The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year in 2004 and one of Pueblo Community College's Distinguished Alumni Recipients in 2010.
In November 2016 CSU-Pueblo honored Ralph with its Annual Lifetime Business Achievement Award. He served on the advisory board of the Hasan School of Business and on the CSU-Pueblo Foundation where he chairs the Finance committee and serves as president of the Land Holdings Management, Inc.
In February 2017 he was appointed a commissioner on the Pueblo Renewal Authority overseeing the expansion of HARP.
