Robert M. Stillman was a member of Central's 1928 state champion football team. He attended Colorado College for two years and graduated from the US Military Academy in 1935. He went to flight school and commanded the 322nd Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force in England until he was shot down and captured in Holland May 17, 1943, remaining a prisoner of war until April 29, 1945.
On Sept. 1, 1954, General Stillman was designated commandant of cadets for the newly activated U.S. Air Force Academy. In the fall of 1959, General Stillman was named to the Sports Illustrated magazine Silver Anniversary All-American football team. The honor is bestowed on individuals who have achieved outstanding success in their careers during the 25 years subsequent to their graduating from college. He retired as Major General after 30 years service in 1965.
