Duane graduated from Central High in 1965 and then attended Northwestern University, earning a doctorate in dentistry from Northwestern in 1973. He then moved back to Pueblo to work in his family's dental practice, Takaki Dental Center.
He provided outstanding community service and civic engagement in many areas. He served on the following boards: PCC Community College Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, the Corwin Foundation, and the Southeastern Colorado Study Club.
His compassion and drive to help others is evidenced by his working with Los Pobres to provide free dental work for migrant workers and children, as well as free dental supplies. He also worked from 2009-2011 at Total Long-term Care to provide dental care at reduced rates for elderly and fixed income individuals who needed to be in long-term care and day care.
Duane also served as President of Southeastern Colorado Dental Society in 1981 and was appointed to the Dental Board of Examiners for the state of Colorado until his death.
Sadly, Duane died in February, 2011.
