Pueblo Central Hall of Honor 2011 Inductee

John Rivas (1952)

John was involved with Central his whole life. He served as a teacher, coach, principal, and then as District 60 Director of Student Activities and also Director of Certificated Personnel. He earned degrees from UNC, Adams State, and the University of Wyoming.

Actively involved in civic, community and state associations, John served as president of the Colorado High School Activities Association, plus its Board and Executive Committee, directing state track and cross country meets and state baseball tournaments. He was also instrumental in promoting city softball for adults. In addition, he was a founding member of the Central High School Foundation. Honors include Pueblo Sports Hall of Fame, Mexican-American Sports Hall of Fame, Outstanding Athletic Director of Colorado, and the Colorado High School Activities Association Hall of Fame. He was commended by the Colorado State Senate in 1995. He was awarded the Sollie Raso Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the Pueblo Softball Hall of Fame in 2010.
