Alan Hamel was named Citizen of the Year by the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce for his many contributions to the Pueblo community. During his life-long career at the Board of Water Works, he empowered staff and board members to establish a long-term vision for developing and maintaining Pueblo's water supply and quality.
After graduation from Central in 1960, he earned a B. S. in Business Administration and a minor in Economics from CSU-Pueblo.
Starting in 1960 as a summer helper at the Water Works, Alan progressed from employment as a pump station operator to management positions and eventually Executive Director in 1982.
Alan has been honored with many awards in Colorado's water community, including the Wayne Aspinall Water Leader of the Year Award in 2010 and the American Water Works Association's George Warren Fuller Award for distinguished service in the water supply field in 2003. He is one of the state's foremost authorities in water issues. His expertise has been in demand as a member and leader of many local, state, and national organizations.
